Cryonic Training

The Cryonic Element is used to describe effects driven by water or an extreme absence of heat. Water and ice effects are often linked to a source of Cryonic energies. The Cryonic Element can be encountered as an Environmental Hazard such as surviving a night in a subzero blizzard, falling cavern icicles, or an erupting geyser. Investing in a Cryonic Training will enhance a Character’s Cryonic Heroic Action Effects and Damage Resistance against Cryonic Damage from any source at every Odd Rank and their Attack and Damage Rolls with Weapons that deal Cryonic Damage and Damage Resistance from all sources of Pierce or Slash Damage on Even Ranks. At Rank Five(5) and Ten(10), the Character’s Base Scale with any Weapon increases by plus One(+1), permanently increasing their Weapon Damage with all Weapons.

Cryonic Heroics

Freeze Blood

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 1)

AP Cost: 5

Action Type: Rapid Action/Reaction

Range: Self

As a Rapid Action or a Reaction to suffering a Bleed, you can instantly cure yourself of the Bleed Injury.

Frigid Affinities

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 1) 

AP Cost: 5

Action Type: Interaction

As a part of an Interaction, you can apply your Cryonic Heroic Modifier to any single Arcana or Athletics Ability Check.

Frost Touch

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 1)

AP Cost: 5

Action Type: Standard Action

Range: Adjacent

Effect Duration: Rounds

As a Standard Action, you can sap the heat from an Adjacent Target, inflicting 1D6 Cryonic Damage for every Two(2) Points of your Focus Attribute and the Chilled Condition for the Effect Duration. If your Target has the Soaked Condition, they suffer the Frozen Condition instead. The Target can attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to cut any Damage in Half(½) and Negate the Condition.

Ice Shard

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 2)

AP Cost: 10

Action Type: Rapid Action

Range: Self

As a Rapid Action, you manifest a shard of pure ice that shatters after use.  Your Ice Shard can function as a Light or Thrown Weapon as an Attack that inflicts your normal Weapon Damage as Cryonic Damage. Alternatively, you can use the Ice Shard to replace a required tool needed for an Engineering Ability Check.

Soak

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 2)

AP Cost: 10

Action Type: Ranged Weapon Attack

Range: Thrown Weapon Range

As a Standard Action, you can concentrate on manifesting a ball of water that cascades towards a Target as a Thrown Ranged Weapon Attack against a Target within Range, extinguishing any open flames and inflicting the Soaked Condition on any Creatures that are Adjacent to your Target.

Winter Resilience

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 2) 

AP Cost: 10

Action Type: Reaction

As a Reaction to suffering Cryonic Damage, you can cut any Cryonic Damage received in Half(½) before applying any Damage Resistances.

Cryoslick

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 3)

AP Cost: 15

Action Type: Standard Action

Range: Half(½) Focus Attribute(Line)

Effect Duration: Rounds

As a Standard Action, you can manifest a path of slick ice in a straight line in a Range equal to Half(½) of your Focus Attribute directly in front of you, creating Slick Difficult Terrain and causing any Creatures in the Affected Area to attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to avoid tripping and falling Prone. The Difficult Terrain persists for the Effect Duration before evaporating into nothingness.

Frost Lock

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 3)

AP Cost: 15

Action Type: Standard Action

Range: Adjacent

Effect Duration: Rounds

As a Standard Action, you can attempt a contested Maneuver to encase a Target’s foot in a block of ice. If successful, your Target suffers the Immobilized Condition for the Effect Duration. Alternatively, you can use Frost Lock to freeze your own feet to the ground, making you Immobilized but immune to Forced Movement Effects for the Effect Duration. A Frost Lock can be instantly destroyed by Crush or Pyrotic Damage. 

Ice Pillar

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 3) & Catalyst (Any Rank)

AP Cost: 15

Action Type: Standard Action

Range: Catalyst Range

Effect Duration: Rounds

As a Standard Action, you can manifest a pillar of pure ice with a height equal to Half(½) of your Focus Attribute at any Space within your Effective Catalyst Range where it will persist for the Effect Duration. If a Creature were to be crushed between an Ice Pillar and a solid surface, they would suffer 1D8 Cryonic Damage for every Point of your Focus Attribute. They are stricken with the Immobilized Condition for as long as the Ice Pillar persists. Affected Targets can attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to instantly Sidestep your Ice Pillar. An Ice Pillar can be destroyed immediately using Crush or Pyrotic Damage or an Attack Roll that exceeds your Force Impact. 

Aquawalk

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 4)

AP Cost: 20

Action Type: Ritual(One Hour)

As a Ritual during a Rest Period, you can spend One(1) Hour concentrating on using your movements to build surface tension rather than break it. Then, you can walk on water and other liquids until your next Rest Period.

Downpour

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 4)

AP Cost: 20

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Focus Attribute(Radius)

Effect Duration: Minutes

As a Full Action, you can manifest a massive stormcloud overhead that unleashes heavy rains with a Radius equal to your Focus Attribute, inflicting the Soaked Condition on all Targets and creating Slick Difficult Terrain within the Affected Area, centered on you for the Effect Duration.

Frost Clone

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 4)

AP Cost: 20

Action Type: Reaction

Effect Duration: Rounds

As a Reaction to being the Target of a Weapon Attack, you can attempt a Physical Save against the Attack Roll. If successful, immediately Sidestep, leaving an ice statue where you previously stood. If your Attacker uses a Melee Weapon, it becomes embedded in your Frost Clone, Disarming the Attacker and making their Weapon inaccessible for the Effect Duration, after which the Frost Clone dissipates into nothingness, dropping any stuck Weapons to the ground. 

Cryonic Body

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 5)

AP Cost: 25

As a Reaction to suffering Cryonic Damage, you can Negate a single Source of Cryonic Damage against you this Turn. 

Ice Wall

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 5) & Catalyst (Any Rank)

AP Cost: 25

Action Type: Standard Action

Range: Catalyst Range

Effect Duration: Rounds

As a Standard Action, you can manifest a wall of pure ice with a height equal to Half(½) of your Focus Attribute between any Two(2) Spaces within your Effective Catalyst Range where it will persist for the Effect Duration. If a Creature were to be crushed between an Ice Wall and a solid surface, they suffer 1D10 Cryonic Damage for every Point of your Focus Attribute and are stricken with the Immobilized Condition for as long as the Ice Wall persists. Affected Targets can attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to instantly Sidestep your Ice Wall. An Ice Wall can be destroyed immediately using Crush or Pyrotic Damage or an Attack Roll that exceeds your Force Impact. 

Undertow

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 5)

AP Cost: 25

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Triple(3*) Speed(Charge)

As a Full Action, while swimming, you can create a powerful current around your body to propel yourself up to Triple(3*) your Speed in a straight line as a Charge in the direction of your choice. Additionally, Undertow can be utilized to launch yourself out of a body of water vertically. 

Geyser

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 6)

AP Cost: 30

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Adjacent/Power Attribute (Line)

As a Full Action, you can strike an Adjacent surface to create a mighty torrent of water that launches a Target a number of Paces equal to your Power Attribute forcefully in the direction of your choice. If your Target’s movement were to be impeded by striking a solid surface such as a tree, wall, or pillar, they would suffer 1D8 Crush Damage for every Point of your Power Attribute and the Stunned Condition for their next Turn. Instead, the Target can attempt a Physical Save against your Physical Impact to Negate the Forced Movement Effect. Alternatively, you can strike beneath your feet to use Geyser to propel yourself the same distance in the direction of your choice.

Icicle Barrage

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 6)

AP Cost: 30

Action Type: Standard Action

Range: Half(½) Focus Attribute(Cone)

As a Standard Action, you can manifest a torrent of ice shards in a Cone up to Half(½) of your Focus Attribute, inflicting 1D8 Cryonic Damage for every Two(2) Points of your Focus Attribute to any Targets within the Affected Area. As a Move Action, you can readjust your trajectory and fire a second wave of icicles at Targets within the Affected Area, inflicting an additional iteration of Cryonic Damage. Affected Targets can attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to cut any Damage in Half(½). 

Ice Block

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 7) & Catalyst (Any Rank)

Action Type: Reaction

Range: Catalyst Range

Effect Duration: Rounds

You can manifest an Ice Wall as a Reaction to cut off a Target Creature or Projectile’s Path of Travel. 

Second Breath

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 7)

AP Cost: 35

Action Type: Ritual(One Hour)

As a Ritual during a Rest Period, you can embrace the liquids in your lung to grant yourself the ability to breathe underwater until your next Rest Period.

Tidal Serpent

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 8)

AP Cost: 40

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Half(½) Focus Attribute(Line)

As a Full Action, you can draw an incredible amount of water from the air around you to manifest a Massive-sized Tidal Serpent that gushes forward in a straight line up to a Range equal to Half(½) of your Focus Attribute, sweeping away all Targets in its Path of Travel and inflicting 1D8 Crush Damage for every Point of your Power Attribute and 1D8 Cryonic Damage for every Point of your Focus Attribute to Affected Creatures. Creatures and Objects consumed by the Tidal Serpent are knocked back to the outer edge of the Affected Area and unavoidably suffer the Soaked Condition. Affected Targets can attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to cut any Damage in Half(½) and Negate the Forced Movement Effect.

Glacial Path 

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 8)

AP Cost: 40

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Adjacent

Effect Duration: Minutes/Rounds

As a Full Action, you can consistently flow Cryonic energies through the liquids around your feet for the Effect Duration in Minutes, constantly freezing any Adjacent liquid surfaces into solid, walkable surfaces around you for the Effect Duration in Rounds, allowing others to follow you across the surface of the water closely and other liquids before reverting to its liquid state. 

Frostfall

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 9)

AP Cost: 5

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Half(½) Focus Attribute(Radius)

Effect Duration: Rounds

As a Full Action, you manifest a heavy sheet of Cryonic energies directly overhead as they come crashing down in the form of a mighty blizzard, inflicting 1D10 Cryonic Damage for every Two(2) Points of your Focus Attribute and the Chilled Condition to all Targets within a Radius equal to Half(½) of your Focus Attribute for the Effect Duration. Snow and ice continue to fall in the Affected Area as the Slick Difficult Terrain for the Effect Duration. Affected Targets can attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to cut any Damage in Half(½) and Negate the Condition.

Encephalex

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 9) & Catalyst (Any Rank)

AP Cost: 45

Action Type: Cast Weapon Attack

Range: Catalyst Range/Double(2*) Catalyst Range

As a Full Action, you can attempt a Cast Weapon Attack against a Large-sized or Smaller Target within your Catalyst Weapon Range by manifesting a liquid tentacle to reach out and forcefully grab an Object or Creature and whip it at high speed towards a Target within Twice(2*) your Effective Catalyst Range. If successful, in addition to your normal Weapon Damage, any Targets struck suffer 1D10 Crush Damage for every Two(2) Points of your Power Attribute. The Thrown Creature instead suffers Maximum Damage.

Absolute Zero

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 10)

AP Cost: 50

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Adjacent

Effect Duration: Minutes

As a Full Action, you can chill the temperature of your finger to Absolute Zero to touch an Adjacent Target with immense Cryonic energies, inflicting 1D10 Cryonic Damage for every Point of your Focus Attribute and the Frozen Condition on your Target for the Effect Duration. If Absolute Zero kills your Target, their body completely shatters and melts into nothingness, leaving no trace behind. Alternately, you can use Absolute Zero to freeze a Massive-sized body of liquid into a solid instantly. 

Drown

Prerequisite: Cryonic (Rank 10)

AP Cost: 50

Action Type: Full Action

Range: Adjacent

As a Full Action, you can unleash an unstoppable torrent of water on an Adjacent Target, causing them to suffer a loss of One(1) Essence. The Target can attempt a Physical Save against your Force Impact to Negate the Essence loss. As a Full Action, you can maintain an active Drown on your Target for an additional Turn at Half(½) the Action Point Cost.
