Godhand

Conduit Of Æthereal Might

Brawler ○ Adept

“It flows through me, and in turn, I give myself over to its mercy. Power beyond your understanding ordains my actions.”

~ Cyrus DeLux, Requis Godhand

For as long as anyone can remember, Æther has permeated the world of Salt. Adepts, those touched by its influence, often struggle to maintain their control over their immense power, as they feel their bodies overwhelmed and consumed by the Æther. Most commonly, Adepts retain their physical integrity through pure mental fortitude and presence of mind; however, the Godhand finds success in a different approach, accepting the energy and letting it shape them just as they shape it.

As the Hybridization of the Brawler and Adept Base Classes, the Godhand harnesses their raw Æthereal power to enhance their physical bodies in ways thought to be impossible. The trademark of a Godhand is the ability to create powerful bursts of energy from their bare hands while performing incredible feats of strength and athleticism. Additionally, the Godhand wields precision control over the Æther in and around their bodies, channeling it within themselves to a tremendous effect.

Historically Speaking

The Godhand, much like the Archon and Meditant, can trace its origins to the discovery of Æthercite within the Ghaliya near what would become the Holy City of Requiem. Newly Awakened Adepts would sometimes turn to martial arts as a form of meditative focus, seeking to tame their freshly bestowed power. This training proved to be a successful method of honing Æthereal Talents, with many Adepts relying on intense training regiments as a part of their daily routine, even without an intent to see combat. During times of war, the Holy City found their empowered martial artists to play a critical role in their civilian defenses and a significant contribution to their many successful military campaigns. The Godhand received their name during the Armistician Incursion, in which captured Requis civilians were moments away from a public execution at the hands of Armistician Forces. When the Armistician general leading the execution asked the civilians to deliver their final words, one man, Cyrus de Lux, burst through his restraints to pay a single backhanded strike to the General before being gunned down. The incredible force of the strike was more than enough to separate the Armistician’s head and neck, with onlookers describing the hit as “a flash of destruction, like being struck down by the hand of an angry god.”

The Modern Godhand

As Æthercite became more prevalent throughout the Oversalt, the teachings of the Godhand provided relief to many Adepts struggling to control their Æthereal abilities. Countless modern fighters and brawlers looking to gain the upper hand in battle often turn to extreme measures in hopes of unlocking the full potential of their physical bodies, a desire rooted in the mythos around the might of the Godhand. Though many may seek their power, and few may practice their teachings for their health, fewer still find themselves worthy of bearing the name. A modern Godhand is a highly prized member of any Company, as they are practiced martial artists, attuned to Æthereal energies, and peerless combatants. A Godhand often grows into a career as a guardian, prize fighter, or sage. An unscrupulous Godhand destroys all that stands in their way, blasting apart the innocent with the flick of the wrist.
